Fotto.ai and TrueLook are closer than most pairs on our compare page: both turn a handful of selfies into new photos in about a minute or two, and both keep the identity coming from your own face. Both now charge once, with no subscription, so the real differences are price per photo, control and scope. Fotto.ai sells credit packs that never expire and spends those credits across dating, LinkedIn, travel and photo-editing tools, while TrueLook sells two one-time packs that do one thing: dating profile photos, generated style by style in the styles you pick, with HyperReal™ keeping your face exactly the same and changing only the place, outfit and light. Choose Fotto.ai if you also need headshots or edits. Choose TrueLook if dating photos are the whole job and you want a wider choice of dating styles at a lower price per photo on the Pro Pack.
Below we cover what Fotto.ai is, what its packs cost at the time of writing (November 2026) and why its photo counts need a careful read, what its privacy and refund policies say, what reviewers report, and how the two compare on every dimension we think matters. All facts about Fotto.ai come from its own pages or public sources we opened on 2 November 2026, listed at the end. We have not run a head-to-head test, so there are no scores or usable-photo rates on this page.
What Fotto.ai is and how it works
Fotto.ai is a web-based AI photo generator whose homepage leads with dating photos for Tinder, Hinge and Bumble. Behind that headline sits a broader toolbox. Its menu lists photo generator packs for dating, travel, winter, LinkedIn profile and office profile photos, plus an AI photo editor with a background remover, background changer, background blur, object remover, upscaler, crop and resize, text and logo, photo restorer and enhancer. It also runs a set of free tools such as a dating photo score and bio generators.
Who runs it
Fotto.ai's terms of service (last updated 14 April 2026) describe it as "a company registered in the Netherlands", governed by Dutch law with the Amsterdam courts as the forum. The site footer names Fotto.AI LTD and carries a 2025 copyright. Neither page gives a street address or a registration number. We couldn't find a launch date, but its earliest review on Trustpilot dates from February 2026, so it's a young company. The homepage says it has 1,200 paying customers and more than 12,000 users. Those are its own figures, and we can't check them.
The workflow
According to its dating generator page, the process has three steps: upload your photos, choose styles and activities (outfits, backgrounds and scenes), then generate. The FAQ asks for 3 to 5 clear selfies, with at least one close-up of your face, although the homepage headline says 2 to 5 and another section says 5. In practice, give it five good ones.
Fotto.ai says identity "comes only from your uploaded images, never from a text description", and its terms say the photos are "created using third-party AI models". You pick a "vibe", such as a coffee shop, beach, city walk or casual indoor scene, and each generation returns a small set of variations to choose from. Photos are delivered as 2K JPGs in a 2:3 portrait ratio, which suits a phone screen.
One design choice worth knowing
The dating page states that Fotto.ai does not reproduce tattoos from your reference photos and that "all skin appears clean in the output", because tattoos are hard to reproduce accurately. That's a candid answer, and a sensible one technically. But if you have visible tattoos that people will notice on a first date, it means your Fotto.ai photos will show a slightly different version of you, and you'll want to mix them with real photos that show the tattoos.
Fotto.ai pricing in detail
At the time of writing (November 2026), the plan cards on Fotto.ai's homepage show two one-time packs. There's no subscription and nothing to cancel, and, unusually, the credits never expire.
| Pack | Price (homepage, EUR) | Price (dating page, USD) | Credits | Vibes | Photos stated on the plan card | Price per photo (plan-card count) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic ("most popular") | €27.59 | $29.99 | 50 | 10 | 40 (10 vibes × 4 variations) | €0.69 / $0.75 |
| Pro | €45.99 | $49.99 | 100 | 20 | 80 (20 vibes × 4 variations) | €0.57 / $0.62 |
The dating page notes that "checkout may display a localized currency", which explains the two price columns: you'll see euros or dollars depending on where you are. Fotto.ai's own comparison tables also mention a starting price "from €9.99" with 4 to 20 photos, but no €9.99 pack appeared on the plan cards we saw, so treat that as a possible smaller pack you'd need to confirm at checkout.
How credits turn into photos
This is the part to read carefully, because Fotto.ai's pages describe it in three different ways:
- The pricing page FAQ says "one generated photo costs 5 credits". Read literally, 50 credits would buy 10 photos.
- The plan cards and the dating page say each vibe costs 5 credits and Basic covers "10 vibes and 40 generated variations", which means 4 photos per vibe.
- The same dating page also says "each vibe returns 2 photorealistic variations to choose from", which would mean 20 photos for Basic.
Our reading: 5 credits buy one generation (a vibe), and each generation returns several variations. Basic therefore gives you 10 scenes, and somewhere between 20 and 40 photos depending on how many variations each returns. For a fair comparison we use the plan card's figure of 40, but the honest range for Basic is €0.69 to €1.38 per photo, and for Pro €0.57 to €1.15. If the exact number matters to you, ask support before you buy. Ten distinct scenes is the more useful number anyway: variations of the same scene rarely give you more than one profile photo each.
The refund policy
The homepage FAQ says "every purchase is covered by a full money-back guarantee". The refund policy itself, last updated 24 July 2026, is narrower:
- It covers your first credit purchase only.
- Fotto.ai must receive the request "no later than 168 hours after purchase", which is 7 days.
- Downloading or exporting any generated photo from that purchase ends eligibility, because "a download indicates that the digital output was accepted and delivered".
- Refunds may be declined when results are affected by unsuitable selfies (blurred, obscured, group, heavily filtered or outdated photos), or when a request expects "guaranteed dating results".
You request a refund by emailing Fotto.ai's support address with the subject "Refund Request". Fotto.ai aims to review complete requests within two business days. The practical lesson is the same as for any download-gated refund: judge the results in the browser before you save a single file.
TrueLook's refund is conditional too, just in a different way. You have 14 days, but you must have used less than 20% of your credits and have tested the photos on a live dating profile for 7 days in a row. The full TrueLook refund policy spells it out.

Output and realism
What Fotto.ai's own samples show
Fotto.ai's homepage links to 25 dating scene pages, each named after a setting: casual, coffee shop, beach, gym, dog park, yacht, mountain hiking, brunch, wine tasting, street-art mural, upscale restaurant, business-class flight, professional and more. The examples on its dating page are labelled as outdoor and casual lifestyle portraits, and the page says its model "avoids plastic skin and obvious artifacts" and renders backgrounds "sharp and photographic rather than artificially blurred". These are the company's chosen samples, which, as with every tool, show its best results.
Fotto.ai is direct about realism risks in its own FAQ: it says the danger isn't AI detection but "using photos that don't look like you". We agree. That's the right frame for judging any generator, ours included.
Where its marketing goes further than the evidence
A few claims on the homepage are worth reading with care:
- "Passes Face Verification". This appears as a badge, with no detail on how it was tested. No generator can promise this, because each app runs its own check.
- "2-3x more matches" and "10x your match game". These are marketing lines, not published results.
- Undetectable on dates. The FAQ says thousands of users have gone on dates without matches knowing. That can't be verified either way.
- Dating-app rules. The FAQ says all major apps allow AI-assisted photos "provided the person in the photo is genuinely you". That's a fair summary of the spirit of the rules, but the wording differs app by app (see below).
The two risks that matter on dating apps
The first is verification. Tinder's Face Check FAQ says the video selfie is used to check whether you "appear to be the same person" as in your profile photos. Hinge's Selfie Verification needs at least one clear, front-facing, unfiltered photo, and changing your photos after verifying "may result in a loss of verification". Any photo that drifts from your real face, whoever made it, makes this harder.
The second is trust. A 2023 experiment in Computers in Human Behavior by Appel and colleagues found that women rated men's Tinder profiles with beauty-filtered photos as more attractive but less trustworthy than the same men's unfiltered photos (241 participants). And a classic 2009 study by Hancock and Toma found that independent judges rated about a third of real online dating photos as inaccurate, often because they were outdated or retouched. Polish helps, up to the point where people sense they're not seeing the real you. The aim is a photo of you on a good day, not a better-looking stranger.
App rules point the same way. Hinge's prohibited content page bans using "AI-generated content to mislead others", and Bumble's community guidelines require at least one photo that shows only you and clearly shows your full face. Our guide to whether AI photos are allowed on dating apps covers each app's wording in full.
Privacy and data
Fotto.ai's privacy policy (last updated 14 April 2026) is clear on the main question: "We do not use your photos to train AI models," and "We do not sell your data." On retention it says:
- Reference selfies are "stored only for as long as your character exists".
- Generated images are kept "only while they are accessible in your history".
- Temporary processing files are deleted shortly after generation, "typically within hours".
- Deleting a character or individual photos from your dashboard permanently removes them, and deleting your account removes everything.
- Your selfies and prompt are sent to the AI model that generates the photos (the providers aren't named), storage runs on "Amazon Web Services or equivalent", and Stripe processes payments.
The marketing pages describe this more loosely. The homepage FAQ says your images are "never stored", and the dating page says selfies are "deleted on a rolling basis", while the policy says they're kept as long as your character exists. The policy is the document that binds the company, so rely on that. One Trustpilot review from February 2026 complained that uploaded photos couldn't be deleted without deleting the whole account. In its reply, Fotto.ai said photo deletion had since been added, and the current policy describes it.
TrueLook's privacy policy is similar in substance: we don't use the photos you upload or the photos we generate to train any AI model, ours or a third party's. Your photos stay in your account while it's active so you can keep generating, and you can delete any selfie or result yourself from your dashboard at any time, which removes it permanently. On training and deletion, the two services make essentially the same promise. Fotto.ai's policy is less specific about which AI providers process your selfies.
What users say about Fotto.ai
On 2 November 2026, Fotto.ai's Trustpilot page showed a TrustScore of 3.8 from 8 reviews: six 5-star and two 1-star. Fotto.ai claimed the page in July 2026 and had replied to both negative reviews.
- Positive themes (June to August 2026): realistic photos, quick and easy to use, and backgrounds that look real. One reviewer said most first results weren't ideal but support refunded the purchase and gave a free retry; another said one generation didn't resemble them, to which Fotto.ai replied that it generates several variations for that reason.
- Negative themes: an October 2026 review said the results fell short of the advertised quality and that refund conditions weren't clear up front, and the reviewer was offered credits instead of a refund. A February 2026 review said the advertised free trial had no credits and photos couldn't be deleted. Fotto.ai replied that a bug had blocked trial credits for some new users.
- Elsewhere: we found no app store listing and no Reddit discussion of Fotto.ai by name.
Eight reviews is a small sample, so read it as anecdote rather than evidence. The two themes that recur, inconsistent results between generations and refund terms that surprised buyers, are worth planning around: use good selfies, and decide about a refund before downloading anything.
TrueLook vs Fotto.ai, dimension by dimension
| Dimension | TrueLook | Fotto.ai |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Dating profile photos only | Dating photos, plus LinkedIn, office, travel and winter packs and a photo editor |
| Input | 4 selfies | 3 to 5 selfies (one close-up) |
| Output count | Up to 30 (Fix) or 140 (Pro) per pack | 10 or 20 vibes per pack; 40 or 80 photos stated on the plan cards |
| Styles | 43 dating styles on both packs, 4 shots per style | 25 dating scenes, plus non-dating packs |
| Realism approach | HyperReal™: your face stays the same; only place, outfit and light change | Identity read from your selfies; 2K output; tattoos not reproduced |
| Speed | About a minute per photo | 30 to 90 seconds per vibe (its stated time) |
| Price per photo | $0.97 (Fix) or $0.35 (Pro) | €0.69 (Basic) or €0.57 (Pro) on the plan-card count |
| Billing | One-time, no subscription; another pack or a top-up if you need more | One-time; credits never expire |
| Refunds | 14 days, with usage and profile conditions | 7 days, first purchase only, nothing downloaded |
| Training on your photos | Never | Never |
| Dating-app fit | Every style built for dating profiles | Dating-led, with other uses on the same credits |
Price per photo, with the maths
TrueLook's Fix Pack is $29 for up to 30 photos ($29 ÷ 30 = $0.97). The Pro Pack is $49 for up to 140 ($49 ÷ 140 = $0.35). One credit is one photo, and each style you pick makes 4, so 30 photos is about 7 styles and 140 about 35.
Fotto.ai's Basic pack is €27.59 for 40 photos on its plan card (€0.69 each) and Pro is €45.99 for 80 (€0.57 each). On the lower count implied by "2 variations per vibe", they're €1.38 and €1.15.
So who's cheaper depends on what you compare. Fotto.ai is cheaper per photo than TrueLook's Fix Pack. TrueLook's Pro Pack is cheaper per photo than either Fotto.ai pack. Both now charge once, so neither has you paying again for photos you don't need. Fotto.ai adds a written promise on its pricing page that credits never expire. With TrueLook you generate style by style, 4 photos each time, until the pack's photos are used; if you need more, you buy another pack or a one-time top-up.
An illustrative example, not a measurement: say you want 6 profile photos and expect to keep about one in three. That's 18 photos. On Fotto.ai, Basic's 10 vibes would likely cover it in one €27.59 purchase, with credits left over if you need fewer. On TrueLook, the $29 Fix Pack covers it with 12 photos to spare. Roughly the same one-time outlay; the difference is which styles you'd rather choose from.
Scope: one job or several
This is Fotto.ai's clearest advantage. If you also want a LinkedIn headshot, an office profile photo, a travel shot for Instagram or an old photo restored, Fotto.ai's credits cover all of it, and its editor tools fix photos you already have. TrueLook doesn't do headshots or editing; every style is built for a dating profile. If dating is the only job, that focus works in your favour: a wider dating style list (100+ on Pro) and the option to upload a reference photo and recreate its look with your face.
Speed and control
On speed the two are essentially level: Fotto.ai quotes 30 to 90 seconds per vibe and TrueLook about a minute per photo. Both let you see results quickly and adjust. Fotto.ai's generations return several variations of a scene, which gives you choice within a scene. TrueLook returns 4 different shots per style: smiling at the camera, a candid laugh, a wider scene and a close-up.
Who should choose which
| If you… | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| also need LinkedIn or office headshots | Fotto.ai | The same credits cover non-dating packs |
| want to edit or restore photos you already have | Fotto.ai | It includes an AI photo editor |
| want a written promise that credits never expire | Fotto.ai | Its pricing page says so; TrueLook's doesn't |
| want the widest choice of dating styles | TrueLook | 43 dating styles on both packs |
| want your current photos checked before you pay | TrueLook | A free photo check scores each photo and suggests styles |
| want the lowest price per photo | TrueLook (Pro Pack) | Up to 140 photos for $49 once, $0.35 each |
| have visible tattoos you want shown | Test carefully on either; Fotto.ai says it removes them | Fotto.ai's output shows clean skin by design |

Example scenarios (illustrative)
A 32-year-old consultant who needs a LinkedIn headshot this week and new Hinge photos next month gets more from Fotto.ai: one pack, two jobs, and credits that wait.
A 27-year-old who has just moved cities and wants a full, varied dating profile with room to try a lot of scenes is better served by TrueLook's Pro Pack: more dating styles, 4 shots of each, and up to 140 photos for one $49 payment, with nothing to cancel afterwards.
Someone who wants just one strong first photo can do it on either. Fotto.ai's Basic pack leaves credits for later; TrueLook's Fix Pack, at $29 once, leaves room to try several styles until one works.
How to switch, or use both
Both give you ordinary image files, so there's nothing to export or migrate. A sensible combination for some people: use Fotto.ai's credits for a headshot or to restore an old favourite photo, and TrueLook for the dating set. Whatever mix you use, check the final six photos side by side for consistency: same face shape, hairline, skin tone and build in every one. Profiles that look like the same person across all photos read as more trustworthy, and match what verification checks.
If you're leaving Fotto.ai, your remaining credits stay in your account, so there's no rush. If you're leaving TrueLook, there's nothing to cancel either: a pack is a single payment with no subscription.
